As part of our Harvest celebrations we participated in the RHS Big Soup Share.
During the week 7th-11th October schools and organisations were encouraged to share the results of their growing with the community.
Our Gardening Clubs, KS1 & 2 have worked hard to sow and grow an array of produce this year, including pumpkins, courgettes, carrots, sweetcorn and leeks.
We worked together on Wednesday 9th to prepare all the vegetables. There was lots of skillful (and careful!) chopping and cutting.
Then on Thursday 10th, we served the finished product outside school at home time. We distributed all the soup, about 90 cups in total. Apart from a sprinkling of herbs and a couple of stock cubes it was entirely our own produce from the school garden - you don't get less food miles than that!
All the children (and adults) seemed to like it, some taking it home to have later. The school choir and after school club were enthusiastic takers.
Congratulations to the children for all their hard work and a big thank you to our adult helpers who make it all possible.
