PE at Wanborough
Staff

Sports funding has allowed team teach for both indoor and outdoor PE over the past three years. This has led to an increase in staff confidence and knowledge.

Staff are now delivering their own outdoor PE session and team teach their indoor with the co-ordinator. Our vision is that staff will teach both their indoor and outdoor PE in 2016/2017.

Many members of our staff play sport outside of work, ranging from teachers, TAs and MDSA staff.

Our PE co-ordinator has achieved a level 5 PE specialist qualification to help deliver, monitor and assist in the teaching of PE.

Our Head-Teacher is secondary PE trained and has wide range of expertise to help plan and deliver the subject.
Our Children

At Wanborough, our children show great enthusiasm for PE. They learn and develop a wide variety of skills due to our curriculum provision and apply these across different sports.

Through PE, our children are able to develop communication and evaluating skills, learn about health and well-being, as well as set and achieve personal goals.

They enjoy taking part in many after school clubs run by the school, as well as many external sporting clubs.

Our children enjoy out of school sport and are a talented bunch with fantastic footballers, rugby players, cricketers, dancers, gymnasts and roller skaters to name a few!

Provision

All classes now receive 2 hours of curricular PE per week. This comprises of an indoor session and an outdoor session.

We have a wide range of resources in school to aid the teaching of PE and are lucky to have use of a hall, large field and playground area to deliver PE.

Our curriculum map consists of a wide range of sports and skills which the children will learn e.g. gym, dance, athletics, orienteering, handball, basketball, netball, cricket, rounders, football, tennis and badminton.

Extra-Curricular PE

Our school provides a variety of different after school clubs throughout the academic year.

Our clubs are very popular with over 80% of children at Wanborough taking part in a club at some point throughout the year.

Each morning all our children take part in a 'wake and shake' routine from 5-a-Day TV. This provides additional physical activity, as well as preparing our children for a hard working day at school.

We are lucky to have important and strong links with community clubs, such as STFC, Wiltshire Tennis and Wanborough WASPS football.
Achievements

For the academic year of 2014/2015 we achieved the Sainsbury's Schools Silver Mark award.

Our children love to represent the school in many different competitions and we regularly take teams to football, netball, tennis, gymnastics, athletics and cricket events.

In 2015 our athletics and tennis team qualified for the Swindon School Games finals and our boys' and girls' cricket teams both reached the county finals at Trowbridge.

We are always keen to celebrate the sporting success of our pupils outside of school and regularly do so in our Newsletter.
