Tree Planting with The Woodland Trust
Last updated 15.02.19
On Thursday 14th February Years 3 and 4 were invited to take part in tree planting on a new woodland site at the bottom of Pack Hill. The site is called 'Manners Wood' and is part of the Great Western Community Forest, a scheme to encourage more tree planting across the whole Swindon area.

The planting session was organised by The Woodland Trust and Swindon Borough Council. Nationwide Building Society gave financial support and the time of some of their staff to help with the event. Their funding also allowed us to be collected by coach from school.

It was a chilly, foggy start to to the day for Year 4. After a safety briefing, they set to and soon warmed up! Some of Year 4 also practiced their radio interviewing skills.

By lunchtime the weather was beautiful and Year 3 had the benefit of the glorious weather in the afternoon.

Both classes attacked the task with great enthusiasm. The tree types were colour coded, but the children were soon confident to ask for the tree varieties by name once they had learned the code.

Between the classes we planted about 300 trees. The species will grow at different rates, but will be reaching a good size in 15-20 years.
