This the fourth anniversary of our participation in this citizen science project with the British Trust for Ornithology.
Our first survey was in October 2017. The only session we have missed was in June last year. We've been fortunate that the other dates have fitted around school closures and restrictions.
"What's Under Your Feet?" is a firm favourite right across the school.
Classes worked in pairs except for Acorn class who had their own session on Tuesday morning (see the video clip)
The children dug up 30cm squares of turf from the school field, the area by the school garden, and the green space next to school. The weather was good for the survey days and, although it's been quite a dry autumn so far, we also found some interesting beetles, larvae, and maggots.
