Welcome

Acorn Class - Term 1

Continuing to look at autumn, we explored the colours of the season. On our walk, we noticed that the leaves were lots of different colours and that lots of the leaves were a mixture of colours. In the classroom we mixed red, brown and yellow and printed using the leaves we had collected. We explored by painting the leaves and then printing them onto paper to see the imprint and using sponges to paint over the top of the leaf to reveal the shape.

We spent some time looking at the changing of the season from summer to autumn last week. Everyday we talk about what the weather is like and how it has changed but last week we watched a video all about autumn and what changes we might see in that season. Then we put on our wellington boots and went out for a walk around the school grounds. Each of us had a basket or bag to collect interesting leaves and sticks. As we were walking we tried to find leaves of all different shapes, sizes and colours. They are in our tuff trays inside and outside for us to continue to explore with.

Last week, Acorns looked at the story of 'Elmer' in class. We completed lots of different Elmer related activities such as:

- Working collaboratively to decorate a giant Elmer.
- Our 'drawing club' focus was on the story, we learnt new vocabulary (friendship, camouflage and unique) and drew Elmer, the forest and a new place for Elmer to camouflage into.
- Funky fingers activities such as: careful colouring, play doh rolling (elephant trunks) and placing buttons.

Last week we celebrated 'Talk like a Pirate day' by dressing up in class and taking part in a variety of pirate activities.

Some activities we did were:
- Walk the plank
- Pirate PE
- Creating our own coffee stained treasure maps
- Decorating our own treasure chests and pirate hats
- Learning pirate songs

Acorn class have settled beautifully well into school life. Over the last couple of weeks they have explored the classroom both indoor and outdoor as well as participating in a range of lessons and activities such as: maths, phonics, yoga, art, Play-Doh and drawing club.
