Acorn Class - Term 1

Week 6/7

Continuing with looking at the changes in the season, we attended our first Harvest Festival at school. We sat beautifully, listening to the vicar talk about harvest and sang the songs we had been learning. We looked at pumpkins in more detail, focusing on the size, shape and colour of them and how they can look very different to each other! We then did some observational watercolour paintings and created pumpkin potions. 

Acorn class - Term 1 - Weeks 6+7

Week 5

This week we looked at the season of autumn. We talked about the changes we might see: leaves changing colour, getting colder, getting darker etc. Then we went on a welly walk around the school grounds. We looked for signs of autumn and collected leaves and twigs. We tried to find leaves of all different shapes, sizes and colours. Then we put everything we collected in a tuff tray to continue exploring with throughout the week.

Week 4

This week we focused on the story of Elmer. during Drawing Club, we drew Elmer (the main character) and then we drew the jungle (the setting). We learnt some new vocabulary with actions: beautiful, camouflage and unique. Later in the week we worked as a team to create a a large patchwork Elmer.

Week 3 

This was Acorn's first full week at school and it was busy one! They created some fantastic self portraits, thinking carefully about the colour, size and shape of our features. We talked about how all of use are different and unique but together we are one team. We ended the week celebrating 'Talk like a Pirate' day and it was filled with fun activities such as: walking the plank, making our own treasure maps, reading stories in the pirate tent, making ourselves into a pirate on a wanted poster and singing lots of pirate songs!

Acorn Class - Term 1 - Week 3

Week 2

Acorn class have settled beautifully into school life. They have enjoyed exploring both our indoor and outdoor areas, playing with different toys. It has been lovely to see the children interacting with each other and making new friends. One activity we completed this week was our wonderful helping hands display. We talked about how we can be helpful to each other and around the classroom. We drew around our hands, carefully cut them out and then decorated them.
