Pinecone Class - Term 4
Week 1:
Year 2 have settled back into school brilliantly after the half-term break. This week, the children began new learning in Geography, exploring different types of transport and finding out more about the UK. In Science, we looked at the basic needs of animals, focusing on budgerigars. The children enjoyed visiting the travelling book fair and will have another chance to browse or buy books on Monday 2nd March at lunchtime.
In Maths, we have been learning about equal groups and beginning to explore multiplication. Homework went home on Monday, and with creativity as our value this term, we are encouraging imaginative approaches. Children may create a 3D model of the balanced food plate, or request a worksheet if they prefer. Spelling Frame has also been updated for this term, with fun activities to make spelling practice more enjoyable.
Week 2:
In week 2 Pinecone class have participated in drumming sessions for music which will continue until the end of term 4. The children have also been enjoying designing their vehicle with an axle and chassis for DT which is linked with this terms topic of transport. The children actively took part in World Book Day with some fantastic costume ideas and we learnt more about Roald Dahl.
Week 3:
The children learned about International Women's Day during reading sessions. In PE, they focused on gymnastics, practicing balances and movements such as the dish, teddy bear roll, and straddle, supported by energetic warm-up games. In maths, the children worked hard developing their understanding of doubling, halving, and dividing by 2.
Week 4:
This week, the children planned and completed their big write based on The Hundred Decker Bus book, using their imagination to write what happened next. We were impressed by the creativity and progress shown in their writing. In topic lessons, the children compared transport from the past with transport today and were fascinated by vintage vehicles. In science, they explored how exercise affects the body, focusing on prediction skills and learning about pulse rate. Again we had some amazing homework submitted this week.
End of term highlights:
In the final week of term, the children enjoyed visiting the church for the Easter service, where they listened to readings and music performed by their peers and confidently sang the Easter songs they had been practicing in assembly. This week also included an engaging cross-curricular PE and science investigation, exploring how exercise affects heart rate and pulse. The children enjoyed the energetic activities and developed a clearer understanding of how exercise impacts the body. We have also been thrilled with the fantastic homework submitted this term, linked to our topic of transport and healthy eating in PSHE.
We wish you all a wonderful break and thank you for the kind Easter gifts.
Please note: For terms 5 and 6, PE days will be Monday and Wednesday.
