Acorn class - Term 4
We are always looking for ways to develop our fine motor skills in Reception. This week, we created split pin knights by cutting out the pieces and then pushing split pins into the paper to allow the knight to move their arms and legs! We had to show great resilience to get the pins through the paper.
Since it was the first official week of spring, we took full advantage and did some planting! With Mr Woodman, we planted sunflowers and mixed seeds in small pots and our larger planter. We also read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, planted our own bean plants and attached them to the window so that we can watch them grow.
This week we focused on the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. First we read the story and worked in groups to act out the story. Later in the week we wrote speech bubbles thinking about what the troll and goats said in the story. During drawing club we learnt the words: courageous and disgusting, we drew the troll, three goats on the bridge and a new adventure for the goats!
This term our topic is all about fairy tales. The first traditional tale we looked at was Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We came into our classroom to find there had been a crime! Someone had been in our classroom and tried porridge! We watched the CCTV and discovered it was Golidlocks! We spent the afternoon investigating and looking for clues. Later in the week, we wrote apology letters to the three bears as Golidlocks, sequenced the story and even tried three different kinds of porridge: too sweet, too salty and just right!
This week, we learnt all about castles and their features. One feature we focused on was towers. There are lots of castles and towers in the fairytale stories we have listened to! To make our towers, we used lego bricks and paint to print on the paper. Some of us create repeating patterns with our colour choices too.
