Pinecone Class - Term 2
Last week, we were extremely fortunate to have an author - Lydia Saward - visit our school and talk about being a writer. She talked to us about how she wrote the book, 'Is Aunt Moll from the North Pole?' and then read the story to us. We really enjoyed her visit and listening to the story.
In week 4, we learnt about Robert Scott and his expeditions to the South Pole. We sequenced some of the events from his final expedition where he, and some fellow explorers, finally made it to the South Pole. We also began sewing in DT and were learning to sew using an over stitch. This will help us when we sew our own puppets later this term.

Last week, we looked at the past tense and how words change when they are used in the past tense. We also made some finger puppets in DT using felt. We drew a shape on card and then used this to cut out two identical shapes in felt. We stuck them together using fabric glue and decorated them. We also found a bit of time to enjoy some of the snow as it fell!

In Design and Technology last week, we began exploring puppets and how they are made. we looked at the materials used to make them and how the puppets move. In English, we looked at some diary writing and searched for diary features (first person, time words and use of feelings) within a text.
We also dressed in blue for World Diabetes Day on Thursday 14th November.

In week 1 of Term 2, we have been comparing Kenya and the UK and learning about the lives of some children in Kenya. We created our final artwork in the Tingatinga Art style and used watercolour paints to paint our African animals. We have also been working hard in PE, practising our football skills and developing our co-ordination.
