Pinecone Class - Term 3

We wish all our parents and carers a very Happy New Year, and thank you for the generous gifts and beautiful cards — your kindness was truly appreciated. The children have settled back into school brilliantly and enjoyed starting our new History topic, Toys: Past and Present. In English, they planned and wrote instructions to help Mr Drury trap a stone giant, even following clues around the school grounds. In Maths, we’ve begun learning about geometry. PE is now on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Library sessions run weekly in small groups, so please bring reading books and records on Tuesdays and Fridays. We’re excited for all the learning ahead!”

Week 2

This week in Writing, the children have been exploring imperative verbs and using them to create clear steps in their own instructions.
In Maths, they have been learning about 3‑D shapes and identifying their key features, including vertices, edges and faces.

In RE, we found out about Shrove Tuesday and linked this to our work on instructions by ordering pictures showing how to make a pancake.

During PSHE we have been learning about trying (persevering)even when tasks are difficult and children set some goals.

We have also started learning our World Beat song, ‘Blumen’ (Flowers), which is sung in German.

Week 3

This week in Pinecones Class, the children designed their own imaginative creatures and used them to practise expanded noun phrases and coordinating conjunctions. They are now feeling confident and ready to start planning their instructions on how to catch a creature.

Year 2 have been practising their World Beat song with great enthusiasm every day. Year 2 will be performing Blumen, a German version of Miley Cyrus’ Flowers. If your child wants to rehearse at home, the video can be located on YouTube 'Miley Cyrus -Flowers (German Version) auf Deutsch' sung by 'thisisvoyce'. The children will also be given a copy of the lyrics.

If your child isn’t finding spelling practice very exciting at the moment, feel free to log in to Spelling Frame. There are lots of fun, engaging games that can help make their practice more enjoyable. Their log‑in details can be found in their reading diaries.

 Week 4 -

This week, the children have enjoyed exploring the work of Henri Matisse even further. They designed their own colourful tiles and used them to create prints inspired by Matisse’s The Sheaf.

In maths, we’ve been learning more about money, focusing on pounds and pence and practising how to count different coins and notes.

We’ve also been practising our World Beat song every day, and the children are becoming wonderfully confident with both the words and the actions.

It’s been lovely to see so many homework projects coming in too. The children have taken great pride in sharing their models and explaining their ideas to their classmates

 Week 5 -

This week in English, Pinecone Class have been busy finishing and editing their instructions on how to capture a creature. The children worked thoughtfully to improve their writing and were proud of their final pieces. We also started our new book, The One Hundred Decker Bus, which has already sparked lots of excitement in the classroom.

In PE, we rounded off our Fundamentals unit with a focus on skipping. The children really enjoyed learning different skipping moves and taking part in lively team games to finish the topic.

In PSHE, the children had a wonderful time crafting birds as part of our Dreams and Goals unit. They loved creating their designs and sharing what their birds represented.

We also received another fantastic batch of homework this week, and the children were delighted to show their models and talk about their ideas with the class.
